William Joseph "Bill" Morris, Sr. of Wilmington, NC, went to be with our Lord on Friday, February 01, 2013. He was born October 12, 1926, in New Hanover Co., son of the late Harry and Mary Miller Johnson Morris of Burgaw, NC, and was preceded in death by his brother Harry Morris, Jr.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Erlene Salmon Morris of Wilmington; three children, son William J. Morris, Jr. and wife Beth, son Henry J."Hank" Morris all of Raleigh; daughter Mary Hazel and husband David Small of Wilmington; seven grandchildren, Will, Cliff, Leah, Abby, Joseph, Jacob and Bennett; brother Joab Johnson "Joe" Morris and wife Betty of Roswell, GA.
Bill was born in Wilmington and raised in Burgaw, NC, where he and his family lived for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a basic training instructor. He was a residential builder and realtor most of his career. An Elder and Sunday School teacher at Burgaw Presbyterian Church, he also served as a lay speaker for many Presbyterian churches in the area. In his younger years he loved to fly private aircraft, and enjoyed boating. He also enjoyed playing golf with friends, discussions on the economy, politics and theology, and was an avid reader.
A memorial service will be held on Monday February 4, 2013 at noon at Harbor United Methodist Church, Wilmington, NC, preceded by a reception/visitation at 11:00 a.m Reverend Donald Sheilds and Reverend Emile Harley will officiate. Following the service, a brief graveside service will be held at the Burgaw Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
