William Murry "Bill" Hicks age 95 of Penderlea passed away Wednesday January 24, 2018 at Almost Home in Thomasville.

He was born November 25, 1922 in Stokes County son of the late Rufus and Elizabeth Parnell Hicks. He was also predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Sallie Bradshaw Hicks.

He is survived by four daughters, Jane Biscoe (Charlie) of Greensboro, Judy Wade (David) of Sunset Beach, Willia Elkis (Mitch) of Palm Harbor FL and Sharon Steelman of Jacksonville FL; four grandchildren, Ashley Wade, Allison Wade, Alex Steelman, and Spencer Steelman; one great grandchild; brothers Julius Hicks, John Hicks and Wade Hicks; two sisters, Lula Munn and Mary Denslow; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was a veteran of WW II having served honorably in the United States Navy. He met his wife Sallie Bradshaw in Penderlea and after 22 years in the Navy he returned home to Penderlea. He soon went to work for the County of Pender and farmed. Bill was a member of Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church. Never one to sit idle, he received his pilot's license at age 76.

Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Saturday January 27, 2018 at Potts Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors accorded by the US Navy. Reverend Paul Couch will officiate. Hogs and Hero's Foundation will be pallbearers and escort Bill to his final resting place.

The family will receive friends 12:30pm until 1:30pm at the church.
