Obituary

Sherry Lee Pittenger Dobbs, 54, of Burgaw, NC, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 at her home. The daughter of the late Minnie and Lee Pittenger, she was born in Newton, NJ on September 30, 1962. She was also predeceased by her big brother Leroy Pittenger.

Sherry was the loving and devoted wife to her husband, Mitchell Lee Dobbs, pastor of the Crossroads Community Church in Burgaw. He survives her at home. She is also survived by her siblings Eunice Spangenberg of Newton, NJ; Judy Hulse and husband Dan of Middletown, NY; John Pittenger of Cuddebackville, NY; Cindy Pittenger and her husband Mike of Turtle Run, TN; Donna Pittenger (Leroy) of Mt. Juliet, TN; Gene Strobeck of TN; Jamie Strobeck and Christine Dillon of FL. Sherry is also survived by her mother-in-law Adrianne Dobbs of Raleigh, NC and sister-in-law Marla Hawkins of Durham, NC. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews, SueEllen, Christina, Walter, Rachel, Machell and Sara.

Sherry was a 1980 graduate of Minisink Valley High School in Slate Hill, NY. She had a zeal for life and loved traveling, especially if it was near the ocean. Sherry was gifted with a great sense of humor and her artistic abilities revealed her talented creative side. Unfortunately, due to medical issues, her traveling and her creative side took a back seat. Instead, she became a prayer warrior. She continually prayed for her church, her family, and her husband's ministry. Sherry always enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends.

A funeral service celebrating Sherry's life will be held at the Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church, 800 Piner Road, Wilmington, NC 28409 on Wednesday, May 17 at 12 noon. with Pastor Steve Mattis officiating.
