Rose Mary
Lewandowski Williams
May 8, 1934 — Jan 23, 2020
Beaufort
Rose Mary Lewandowski Williams of Castle Hayne, NC and Beaufort, South Carolina, went to sing with the angels on January 23, 2020.
She was born on May 8, 1934 in Castle Hayne, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Anthony and Anastasia Lewandowski. She was the youngest of eight children, including her twin who passed away at birth.
Her roots are heavily in Castle Hayne not just through family and friends but through church and service. She played the organ in the church for many years growing up in the St. Stanislaus family. She graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina and immediately went to work at what is now the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in the Pharmacy Department. After leaving North Carolina and heading north to Washington DC, she began work for the Army Map Service. It was a trip to Florida with her sister where she met a young Marine named Bruce Williams and fell in love. After only one week, they were wed, and it was truly a marriage of a lifetime lasting almost 63 years..
Rose Mary, or "Rosie" as she was known to her friends, spent her early married years being a wonderful stay-at-home mom to her children until they reached middle school age. It was then she went to work with the Beaufort County School District in SC spending nearly 25 years with Broad River Elementary as a classroom assistant and helping in the reading lab.
Rose Mary believed in always giving back so she along with her daughters volunteered with Red Cross for over 25 years and along with her hubby helped with the Alzheimer's Association in Beaufort.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Ben Tomlinson of Bluffton, SC, son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Carol Williams of Lexington, SC and daughter, Linda Thornley of Swansboro, NC. She also has seven grandchildren, Brian, Samantha, Andrew (who was waiting for his Grandma in Heaven), Megan, Joshua, Matthew and Alanna, as well as two great-grandchildren, Asher and Eleanor; and sister, Teresa Mazur of Holiday FL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Castle Hayne, North Carolina on Monday, January 27th at 2:00pm with visitation beginning one hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Stanislaus Catholic Ch. at www.ststanislauscatholic.org , or SC Special Olympics, area 8.
