Phillip Wade Groves Sr., age 82 of Castle Hayne, passed peacefully at home Tuesday November 17, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born December 7, 1937 in Pender County son of the late Harvey and Doris Groves.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Annette Horrell Groves; 3 sons, Phillip Groves Jr. (Tracie) of Magnolia, Darrell Groves of Castle Hayne and Kevin Groves (Mae) of Castle Hayne; 8 grandchildren, Michael, Meagan, Braxton, Angie, Haleigh, Kyle, Carley and Emilee; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Charlie Groves and wife Sherry of Greensboro; sister, Angie Kellum of Sneeds Ferry; and several nieces and nephews.

Wade loved Jesus Christ and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He served honorably in the US Army.  He was an avid member of Wrightsboro Baptist Church and served his community as a member of Wrightsboro Volunteer Fire Department. Wade was a dedicated member of Cape Fear Optimist Club. He was retired from the Star News Newspaper.

The family will receive friends 1-2:30pm before the service at Wrightsboro Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2:30pm Saturday November 21, 2020 at Wrightsboro Baptist Church. Reverend Michael Lewis and Reverend William Hill Pearsall will officiate. Burial will follow at Burgaw Cemetery.
