Penny Melvin Alford, age 76 of Wilmington, passed from this earthly life on Saturday June 9, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 28, 1941 in New Hanover County, daughter of the late Lonnie and Maude Teachey Melvin. She was also predeceased by her brother, CSM Donald L. "Ranger" Melvin.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Charles Alford of the home; three daughters, Charlsey A. English of Wilmington, Brenda A. Tucker and husband Elton of Burgaw and Jennifer A. Messer and husband Mark of Wilmington; six grandchildren, Charlie Messer(Heather), Matthew Messer, Ashley Medina(Michael), Hannah English, Elizabeth Craver(Brandon) and Kimberly Haraldson; seven great grandchildren; sister Mildred Lee Wilson of Brunswick County; and many nieces and nephews.

Penny was a great wife and wonderful mother. She dearly loved her family and enjoyed playing cards. She also loved and enjoyed her dogs.
