Nancy Murphy Small age 86, of Day Springs of Burgaw, died Monday June 28, 2010 at home. She was born June 2, 1924 in Burgaw, daughter of the late Tate Thurman and Mable Logue Murphy.
Nancy was a life long member of the Burgaw Presbyterian Church where she taught bible study for a circle. She was a member of the Burgaw Book Club for thirty years, and a docent at the Pender County Museum for twenty years.
Nancy received her under graduate degree from UNC Chapel Hill, and a Masters degree from Appalachian State University.
Nancy taught school around the state teaching special Ed for most of her career. She retired from West Pender School.
She loved watching hummingbirds, morning glories and seeing rainbows. Nancy had a passion for animals operating a pet sanctuary at her home.
She was predeceased by her brother Henry Logue Murphy; sister, Julia Murphy Phillips; and her husband Reverend Edward Telfair Small.
Memorial services will be held on July 11, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the Burgaw Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Pender County Humane Society PO Box 626 Burgaw, NC 28425.
