Obituary

Mildred Arnette, age 100 of Burgaw, passed peacefully in her sleep, Sunday September 25, 2022 at Peak Resources in Wilmington, NC.

Mildred Arnette was born November 17, 1921 in Waycross GA, to parents Howard Ellis Arnette and Lottie Brown Arnette. She is survived by her nephew, James Decatur Jones of the home and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother Lottie Brown Jones and stepfather Decatur Jones Sr.,brother Jimmie James Brown and wife Yvonne of Way Cross, GA, step brother Earl Wayne Jones and wife Dorothy Mae Jones of Carolina Beach, step brother Decatur Jones Jr. and wife Virgina Jones of Mt. Gilead, NC, step sister Annie Grace Parker and Robert of Burgaw, step sister Jean Evelyn Spell and CS of Roseboro, NC, stepbrother William Robert Jones of San Antonio, TX ,and stepsister Mary Louise Rosace and Anthony of Girard, OH.

Mildred was a very loving and caring person who will be greatly missed. After graduation from Burgaw High School, she went to work in the Post Office at Camp Davis in Holly Ridge, NC. When WW II was winding down and then closed Camp Davis, Mildred went to Cosmetology School in Charlotte, NC. After graduating she went to work for Eleanor's in Burgaw. Later she had her own shop built next to her home, where she ran Mildred's Beauty Shop. She closed her shop at the age of 90, with two customers left that came on Thursday. She enjoyed working in the yard and in her flower and vegetable garden. She could do her home repairs and fabricate what she needed to do to get the job done. She enjoyed saltwater fishing at the Scotch Bonnet Pier at Topsail. Mildred was a very loving and caring person and will be greatly missed.

A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 2:30pm at Burgaw Cemetery. The Reverend Will Davis will officiate.
