Meredith Louise Chesson Smith, born on October 22, 1945, in Roper, NC, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on December 9, 2024, after a beautifully lived life.

Meredith's passing has left a profound void in the lives of her family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by her. Her absence is deeply felt, and her memory will forever be cherished. Full of love and laughter, she touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a social butterfly who possessed an incredible love for all people.  Because Meredith radiated warmth and kindness wherever she went, she never met a stranger.  Her passion for flowers and crafting was well-known among family and friends.  She loved to dance, loved music, and also loved to play the ukulele.

Born on 10/22/45 in Roper, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Miriam and Russel Chesson.  She was predeceased by her brother, Tony Chesson.  Meredith is survived by her loving husband, George Rufus Smith, her son, Patrick Shane Smith, her daughter, Jamie Michelle Smith, and her stepdaughter, Dawn Smith Cox.   Her nurturing role extended as a grandmother, where she found immense joy in the lives of her five grandchildren (Eli Smith, Emma Fredricks, Morgan Cox, Mackenzie Lynch, and Macy Cox), who were the light of her life.

Out of respect for Meredith's wishes, the family has decided to hold private services. We appreciate your understanding and consideration during this difficult time.
