Marlon "Papa" Williams, age 82 of Burgaw passed peacefully Thursday August 6, 2020 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 4, 1938 in New Hanover County son of the late Ellis and Lillian Crocker Williams. He was also predeceased by 6 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marsha Mintz Williams; a son, Bart Williams and wife Marsha of Castle Hayne; a daughter, Melissa Monroe and husband Joe of Castle Hayne; 9 grandchildren, Jessica, Kristi, Stacy, Brandon, Bart Jr., Lori, Michael, Daniel, and Nathan; 5 great grandchildren, Jocelyn, Jayden, Adryen, Noah, and Zayne; 4 brothers, Elmer Williams, Alvin Williams, Glen Williams and Charles Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

Marlon was a member of the United States Navy serving honorably in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the US Navy and received several commendations for heroism. He was a member of the Burgaw and Castle Hayne Hardee's breakfast clubs. He was able to work and do what he wanted until the very last. Papa loved his family and dearly loved his grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday August 9, 2020 at Mintz Family Cemetery in Delco. Pastor Jim Ghessom will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy.
