Obituary

Lucius Robert George, Jr, 91, of Wilmington died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at his home. He was born in Burgaw, NC on March 25, 1925. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII. After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill, he was employed as an accountant. He enjoyed playing golf, but his greatest love was music. As an accomplished pianist, he composed and wrote many songs, was in a swing band while in the army, gave many Christmas concerts at First Baptist Church, as well as played for 50+ years during Sunday services. He entertained many people with his wonderful talent up until the day he died.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucius and Lucille George, and wife of 65 years, Peggy Millar George.

He is survived by his children, Becky Caudle (Don) of Tarboro, Bob George (Joan) of Richland MI, Pam Womble (Danny) of Chapel Hill, and grandchildren, Will (Amanda) and Rob, great grandchild, Marshall, and special cousin, Vicki Teal.


A graveside service with military honors will be held at Burgaw Cemetery on Monday, October 17 at 11:00 AM, officiated by Rev Matt Cooke and Rev Jim Everette. Visitation will follow at the home of Lucius George in Wilmington at 2:00 PM . In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the Music Program at First Baptist Church, 411 Market St. Wilmington, NC 28401.
