Linwood Earl Sumner, age 76 of Teachey passed peacefully Tuesday July 14, 2026 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 15, 1950 in Lenoir County son of the late Elvis and Grace Sumner.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Sumner; three sons, Scott Sumner and wife Tracie of Elon, Marc Sumner and wife Brooke of Wilmington, and Michael Sumner and wife Lisabeth of Wilson; five grandchildren, Morgan Cole (Preston), Lauren Sumner, Macon Sumner, Brody Sumner, and Sara-Grayson Weaver (Garrett); two great grandchildren, Grayson Weaver and Reagan Cole; sister, Pat James and husband Durwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Lin had a passion for restoring old cars and enjoyed hunting, but above all, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Friday July 17, 2026 at Rockfish Cemetery and burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation.
