Obituary

Leslie A. Lee, 83, of Hampstead, North Carolina finished an extra-ordinary life, Friday, December 28th, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones and biggest fans.

A legend to his family and community, Leslie was husband to his faithful bride, Dottie, for 61 years, father to 4 children, grandfather to 8, and great-grandfather to 12. Born December 23, 1935 in Willard, North Carolina, his life as a true maverick/individual afforded him the roles of medic in the US Army during the Korean War, tobacco farmer, boiler constructor for Babcock and Wilcox, shrimp boat captain, seafood business operator, restaurateur, country line dancer, Mayor of The Village of Sloop Point, local celebrity and seafood guru, self-taught marine biologist and collaborator with NC State's Marine Biology program, amature horticulturalist, multi-property landlord, life-long member of Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church, and over-all, fixer-upper extraordinaire.

God's grace and Leslie's fighting spirit - to the exhaustion and gratefulness of his family - facilitated his survival through rattlesnake bites, shipwrecks at sea, multiple near-fatal medical emergencies, a quadruple heart bypass, a heart transplant, and the accidental amputation of various fingers on three separate occasion. He will be forever immortalized in our hearts and minds as a giant of a man; the embodiment of courage, strength, and love.

Left to honor his legacy are his beloved wife, Dorothy (Dottie) Beckwith Lee; children Marcia (Michael) Powell, Earl (Pam) Lee, Becky King, and Leslie Myer Lee; and the family who gifted us 15 extra years with our Superman, by donation of life, Roger and Pam Powell, Caitlyn, and Deanna. Leslie is preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Mildred Taylor Lee, sister Mary Purcell, and his deeply honored heart donor, Susan (Powell) Bates.

The family would like to thank the care staff at Woodbury Wellness, Surf City DeVita, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, and his sweet caretakers.

Visitation will take place Sunday, December 30th, 2pm, at Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church, with services immediately following at 3pm. Reverend Steve Spearing will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to assist others receiving needed heart transplants. Donations can be directed to: Duke Health Developement and Alumni Affairs, Attn: Morgan Pope, 710 West Main Street, Durham, NC 27701, Leslie Lee Memorial in memo line.
