Rudolph Landis Pittman Jr., beloved father, brother and grandfather passed away peacefully in Brevard, NC, on Wednesday, October 9th, 2024 at the age of 73. He was born in Wilmington, NC to Rudolph "Rudy" L. Pittman Sr. and Wanda B. Pittman. Landis lived a full and accomplished life, filled with love for his family and a passion for helping others.
Landis loved spending his days on the coast soaking up the sun, boating or planning countless flounder fishing trips with friends. He was a talented sketch artist with a gift for comics. Landis had a friendly and warm personality that drew people in effortlessly. His genuine smile and peaceful demeanor made others feel at ease in his presence.
Born and raised in Wilmington, NC, Landis graduated from New Hanover High school in 1969 where he went on to pursue a degree in Drafting Technology from Cape Fear Community College. He spent time at UNC Charlotte before deciding he was ready to start his career.
Over the course of his career Landis dabbled in various adventures but most notably celebrated over 25 years at Sears Robuck as Operations and Sales Manager. He expanded on his sales experience in the building industry where he had the opportunity to call some unlikely places "home", like Dubai and South Dakota, working with companies Red Sea Housing Service and Builder's Choice. Landis also worked for All American Homes as Regional Sales Manager followed by Account Executive at Excel Homes. Landis was a passionate sports enthusiast and for a period of time was the proud owner of Nevada Bob's Golf Shop in New Bern, NC.
Landis was preceded in death by his loving parents, Rudolph "Rudy" L. Pittman and Wanda B. Pittman of Wilmington; three uncles, Leon M. Brock Jr., of Stedman, NC, Donald George Brock of High Point, NC and Billy Ray Brock of Wilmington.
Landis' memories will be forever cherished by his surviving children, son Samuel Pittman and wife Kayla Pittman; daughter Allison Kiraly and husband Alex Kiraly. He was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren, Grayson and Charley Pittman, and Mila Kiraly.
The eldest of three children, Landis is also survived by his sister, Barbara P. Watson and her husband, Claiburn "Butch" Watson; brother Ronald L. Pittman. He is also survived by his aunt, Catherine Tart.
Landis will be laid to rest in his family's plot at Oleander Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 at Harrell's Funeral Home from 11:00am – 12:00pm. Following visitation, Landis' life will be celebrated by his family and friends with a graveside interment service at Oleander Memorial Gardens at 1:00pm.
Memorial gifts may be made to the ALS Association, or the Alzheimer's Association.
