Joyce Ann Adams Joyner died peacefully on February 15, 2023. She was born May 28, 1942, in Burgaw, North Carolina to Willie Franklin (Monk) Adams and Annie Elizabeth Jones Adams. She was raised in Wallace, North Carolina by her aunt and uncle, Annie Elizabeth Bryant Newkirk and Rosco (Ross) Newkirk. All of whom preceded her in death.
While growing up in Wallace, NC, Joyce attended Wallace Elementary school. In 1960, she graduated from Charity High School and moved to New York where she worked for the telephone company. In 1988, she returned to North Carolina and pursued a job as a nurse's aide.
Joyce was a people person and enjoyed helping others, crocheting, playing cards and cruising. She was a good friend to many. During her illness her family and friends came to her aid, which testifies to the fact that she herself was a kind and loving person. It was evident that she was loved by many and will be missed. One thing people enjoyed about Joyce was her sense of humor, which she maintained even when she didn't feel good.
Joyce was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Franklin (Snooks) Adams Jr. and Richard Henry (Dicky) Adams; and her sister Cynthia Marshburn Swinson. She leaves to cherish her memories: her siblings and their families: Lynne Brown-Davis of NC, Lynnette Evanson (Joe) of FL, Deborah P. Davis of NC; Lewis Greogry (Greg) Adams (Darlene) of NC; Terry Lee (Pap) Adams (Edwina) of NC; Cheryl Wilson Beatty of NC. Special friends who cared for Joyce during her illness proving to stick closer than a brother; Diane McDuffy, Jeanette & Michael Maxie, Rick & Kisstine Bland, David (Boo) Hatchett, Jammine Murphy, as well as many others who loved and supported her.
A memorial service at 1PM Saturday February 25, 2023 at Harrell's Funeral Home Chapel and available on Zoom link, meeting ID 5732826601 with passcode, stanley.
