John Martin Yates Sr., age 75 of Rocky Point passed peacefully at home Wednesday January 22, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born November 12, 1949 in New Hanover County, son of the late William Bertis Yates Sr. and Myrtle Berrier. He was also predeceased by his loving wife Rebecca Harrell Yates of Burgaw.

He is survived by two children, Laura Hansen and husband Chris of Surf City, and John Yates Jr. and wife Cady of Rocky Point; three grandchildren, Jacob Scott, Graham Yates, and Emmie Yates; brother, Bert Yates and wife Jovie of Greensboro, and sister, Elaine English of Wallace.

John was the proud owner and operator of HRH Construction Products. He was a hard worker and enjoyed interacting with his customers and vendors, along with the business relationships that were built over the years. John was a graduate of UNCW. He loved to golf and enjoyed going to the beach with his wife and family. Most of all, John loved his family and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 PM Sunday January 26, 2025 at Harrell's Funeral Home. There will be a private burial to follow at Riley's Creek Cemetery in Rocky Point.
