Obituary

Willy James "Jim" Harts Sr., age 83 of Castle Hayne, passed peacefully Tuesday January 2, 2024 at New Hanover Reg. Med. Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 15, 1940 in New Hanover County son of the late Richard and Edna Atkinson Harts Sr.

He is survived by Barbara Tokoly Harts, the mother of his three sons, Jimmy Harts Jr. and wife Teresa of Rocky Point, Chuck Harts of Burgaw, and David Harts of Castle Hayne; six grandchildren, Taylor, Alysha, Kaleigh, Aaron, Ty, and Amy; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Bobby Harts and wife Carmel of Burgaw, and Larry Harts and wife Neva of Long Creek; two sisters, Wanda Kosh and husband Jimmy of N. Augusta SC, and Nita Langston and husband Ernie of Leland; girlfriend of fifteen years, Cindy Sipple and her extended family; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Jacky Harts.

Jim served honorably in the United States Army. He was an entrepreneur and owner of Jim's Bait and tackle and various other businesses. He never met a stranger.  He was a community service organizer and called the "Mayor of Castle Hayne". Jim was past president of The Loyal Order of Moose. He was president and organizer of Long Creek High School reunion. He enjoyed golf, was a Tar Heel fan, and enjoyed watching sports on TV. Most of all Jim loved his family and cooking at gatherings on the river.

A celebration of his live will be announced in the near future.
