Jane Suzanne Polera, 84, of Burgaw, NC, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, September 23, 2024, in Wilmington, NC.

Born on June 15, 1940, in Staten Island, NY, she was the beloved daughter of the late James Benjamin and Elizabeth Freeman. Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Vincenzo Polera.

Jane's legacy lives on through her children, Elizabeth Butrim and husband Jason of Burgaw, and James Polera and wife Janine of Southport. She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Jason Butrim, Cody Polera, Tanner Polera, Lindsay Williams, Joshua Butrim, and Rachel Polera, and a cherished great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with her dear sister-in-law, Kathy Freeman.

A devout Catholic, Jane found great joy and comfort in her faith and was a dedicated member of her church. She also served as a Registered Nurse for over 50 years, caring for others with kindness, compassion and grace.

Beyond her career, Jane was known for her love of animals, especially dogs, and her incredible skills in the kitchen. Her Italian dishes were legendary, despite not being Italian herself. She was also an accomplished, award-winning basket weaver, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her artistic spirit.

Jane's warmth, generosity, and deep faith will be forever remembered by her family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Harrell's Funeral Home in Burgaw.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Burgaw. Father Roger Malonda Nyimi will officiate, and the burial will follow in the church cemetery.
