James Patrick
Reilly
Sep 23, 1949 — Nov 23, 2020
Burgaw
James "Jim" Patrick Reilly Jr., age 71 of Burgaw passed away on Monday November 23, 2020 after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Jim died peacefully at home with his beloved wife, Virginia "Ginny" Thompson Reilly, of 41 years by his side. Jim was born September 23, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY, the eldest son of the late James and Sue Signorile Reilly. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his three "girls", Tracy Drew and husband J R of Port Jervis, NY, Lynley Reilly of Wilmington, NC, and Logan Reilly-Gilbert and husband Kevin of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Jordan Drew, Justin Drew, and Virginia "Wynn" Gilbert; three brothers, Stephen Reilly and wife Joan of Wilmington, NC, William Reilly of Darlington, SC, and Richard Reilly of Burgaw, NC.
Jim was a lover of fast cars, fast horses, and fine whiskey. He lived to entertain and could always be found in his kitchen cooking up great meals, telling jokes, and pouring cocktails for the table. Up until retirement, Jim spent his time running his tile and stone business and was well known in the industry. In recent years, Jim could be found tending to his plants on the farm and listening to his tunes (Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Joe Bonamassa and a little George Strait just to name a few). Jim was most proud of his time serving his country in the Navy, more specifically the United States Construction Battalion (The Seabees), while stationed in Vietnam.
A celebration of life will be held at the family farm in Burgaw on Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim's honor to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.com . Shared memories and condolences can be sent to the family at www.harrellsfh.com . The family is forever grateful for the guidance and care provided by Dr. Lindsey Prochaska and Lower Cape Fear LifeCare during Jim's cancer journey. Lastly, the family wishes to thank Emily Brazik, Kim Alterson and their families for the tremendous amount of love and support during this difficult time.
