Helen Francis Horvath Meszes passed away gently from earthly life, Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the age of 98.

She was born March 13, 1927, in Pender County, daughter of the late Joseph and Annie Lesko Horvath. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Meszes, and all four siblings.

Helen worked at the family business of Burgaw Dry Cleaners back in the day, until she and Bill moved to Hampstead in the 80's. There she loved cooking, fishing, shrimping, clamming, everything involved with spending time on the water! For many years she bowled competitively for Mike's Garage with "her Bill", along with her sister Anne and brother-in-law Mike. Helen and Bill would also host a cozy gathering every year for family and friends. In particular, she loved spending time with family and of course "her Bill". She would always make light of bad situations and crack a joke or say something funny and offbeat to make you laugh. Helen was also a devoted Catholic and attended St. Joseph's in Burgaw and All Saints Catholic Church in Hampstead. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

She is survived by great-nephew Rob Strickland, wife, Carolin Strickland, niece Donna Horvath, husband, Mao Lo, niece Constance (Connie) Rivenbark, nephew Joe J. Horvath, Jr, and many other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 19th, 5:30-6:30 PM at Harrell's Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 20th 2025 at St. Helena Cemetery. Reverend Father Roger Nyimi will officiate, and burial will follow.
