Grace Alexander Farrior age 91 was born on July 17, 1930 in Burgaw, North Carolina and grew up there. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on the afternoon of December 6, 2021 at the New Hanover Region Medical
Center- Hospice Care Center. She was the daughter of David John Farrior and Lela Shaw Johnson. She lived in the Washington,
D.C. area for most of her adult life.
Grace had been in declining health for about 14 years before her death and her brother Stanley M. Farrior moved her to the Wilmington, N.C. area to be closer to family where she lived in various Nursing Home Facilities due to declining health for the rest of her life.
She was a member of the Burgaw Presbyterian Church growing up as well as the rest of her family and looked back with many fond memories of the early part of her life growing up there. Grace was the eleventh child of David John Farrior and Lela Shaw Johnson . She attended grades one through twelve in Burgaw, North Carolina. She became a teacher after graduating in 1952 from Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, North Carolina with a BS Degree in Physical Education. She earned a graduate Masters Degree in Health Education in 1969 at the University of Maryland.
She worked as a Therapist at the Seton Psychiatric Institute, in Baltimore, Maryland; and as a Recreation Leader at the Baltimore, Maryland Dept. of Recreation. From 1957 to1972 she was a Health Education Teacher in the Maryland public Schools. After she finished her teaching career she was a partner in the Wash, DC area providing marketing and officiating services for non- professional tennis tournaments which she enjoyed very much.
Grace is survived by one of her siblings Dr. Stanley M. Farrior a retired Dentist and his wife Julia. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews . Her parents had 13 children. She was preceded in death by the following: Her parents and Brothers: David John Farrior II I, Charles Owen Farrior, Edward Milton Farrior and, wife Elizabeth, Julian Wade Farrior and wife Grace, Alan Rivers Farrior and wife Marie, William Vance Farrior, and Joseph Johnson Farrior. Sisters: Rachel Johnson Farrior and husband Carlyle, Ruth Marshall Farrior and husband Robert, Mary Anne Farrior and husband Frederick, and Katherine P. Farrior Sister in law: Ellen Tucker Farrior deceased wife of Stanley M. Farrior.
A private family burial will be in Burgaw Cemetery.
