Cleta Jennette McLendon,  age 94, of Burgaw died peacefully on Sunday, March 10th, 2024 in Wilmington, NC.

She was born July 14, 1929 in Wayne County, daughter of the late Robert and Lucy Taylor Jennette.

Cleta is survived by her daughter Susan McLendon Mitchell, granddaughters Meredith Susan Mitchell and Alexis Mitchell Hunter, grandson-in-law Wes Hunter, and great grandsons Mason James Hunter and Banks McLendon Hunter. She is also survived by her sister Naomi Jennette Cottle, sister-in-law Lorraine Jennette, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George McLendon, and her son-in-law Larry Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Bromley Jennette, Buck Jennette, and Robert Jennette as well as her sister Carolyn Jennette Parks.

Cleta was an active member of the community in Burgaw, NC for many years. She worked for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad for 33 years and was a member of Burgaw Baptist Church.

A service will be held at Harrell's Funeral Home in Burgaw on Wednesday March 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Reverend Danny Justice will officiate. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service at 1:00. Entombment will follow the service at Riverview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials or donations may be made to Burgaw Baptist Church in Cleta McLendon's name.
