Obituary

Betty Ann Gregg, 90, of Wilmington, passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Cleveland, OH on April 3, 1932, the daughter of the late Henry Wiggins and Isabelle Head Wiggins. She is survived by her two children, Aimee Mitchell and husband Tollie of Burgaw and Keith Gregg and wife Denise of Mooresville, and six grandchildren, Caroline Boese, Garrett Gregg, Perrie Gregg, Lauren Gregg, Ren Gregg, and Sydney Gregg and nieces Robin Riecke, Libby Churchill and Tricia Berry. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Gene, and her sister, Frances Berry. Betty collected life-long friends wherever she went with her kindness, wit and giving nature. She was loved by many and will be sorely missed.

Betty reveled in the happiness she found with her husband of 64 years and their daughter, Aimee and son, Keith and their families. Betty spent her formative years in Lilburn, GA. She played high school basketball and was proud to have made the state finals. After she graduated from Tucker High School, she trained as a radiation technologist at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA. A few years later, she and a friend moved to Miami and became Delta flight attendants. Betty and Gene met on a flight and married on June 21, 1958. She and Gene worked hard to make a great life for their family across multiple cross-country moves, including some moves to farms, including a move to a farm in Virginia where they raised cattle and had horses, moving upon Gene's retirement to Wilmington, Burgaw and then Wilmington, NC. Betty loved being a very involved mom. She enjoyed working in a clothing store when they lived in Virginia, but most of her life she worked as a radiology technician until she finally retired in her late 70s.

Betty loved to entertain family and friends at their home. In addition, some of her greatest pleasures included walking (especially walking one of her much loved dogs), playing basketball, spending time on a beach, traveling the USA and abroad, reading and volunteering at their church and at Pender County Christian Services.

A memorial service officiated by Sandy Harris, Director, Pender County Christian Services, will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at 3 pm at Harrell's Funeral Home, 212 S. Dickerson Street, Burgaw, NC.
