Bessie Louise Wood Bowden, age 78 of Burgaw, died Friday March 8, 2013 at Huntington Health Care.

She was born October 27, 1934 in Pender County daughter of the late Walter and Bessie English Wood. She was predeceased by her husband Marvin Franklin Bowden Sr. in 2006.

She is survived by three sons, Bobby Wood, Frankie Bowden and wife Cindy, and Jimmy Bowden; a daughter, Helen Adinolfi and husband John all of Burgaw; five grandchildren, Amber Heath, Daniel Wood, Joshua Heath and wife Jessie, Cona Bowden, and Taylor Bowden; two Great Grandchildren, Noah and Colton Heath; two brothers, Bill Wood and wife Michelin of FL, and Clifton Wood of CO; a sister Virginia Vickery and husband Vic of Wilmington; and several nieces and nephews.

Bessie was a lifelong member of Cora's Grove PFWB church.
She loved her family and baseball, and dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday March 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Cora's Grove PFWB Church. Reverend Baris Lanier and Reverend W. E. Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bowden Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday 6-7:30 PM at Harrell's Funeral Home.
