Bordeaux
Oct 28, 1927 — Aug 12, 2020
Wilmington
Adolphus Fletcher Bordeaux, age 92, of Rocky Point, North Carolina passed away peacefully on August 12, 2020 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
Adolphus was born on Friday, October 28, 1927 in Elizabethtown, North Carolina to the late Eddie Monroe Bordeaux and Lyda Gertrude Mote. He was the oldest son of 10 children. He is predeceased by his first wife Ather Naomi Lanier Bordeaux, his second wife Norma Ruth Sholar Murray Bordeaux, Brothers – Nathan Bordeaux, Floyd Bordeaux, Leo Bordeaux, Sister's - Gertrude Bordeaux Tatum, Selma Bordeaux Blanton, Carolyn Bordeaux, Janet Bordeaux and son-in law Pearlie Bradford Watkins Jr.
He is survived by his daughter Louise Bordeaux Watkins, Grandchildren – Sarah Louise Watkins, Pearlie Bradford Watkins III "Brad", David Brandon Watkins and wife Tonia Aman Watkins, Great-grandchildren – David William Watkins "Will", Kailee Faith Watkins and Hailey Nicole Watkins all of Wilmington, NC and numerous extended family members throughout the United States.
Adolphus was raised on a farm and grew up in a loving family with many extended family members. He worked on the farm to help his parents support the family and eventually left school to help them even more. He was introduced to his wife Ather Lanier by his Uncle Henry Mote and married her on March 13, 1946. Their daughter Louise was born three years later. His Uncle Henry married Ather's sister Carolene Lanier.
Adolphus joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in June of 1968 and was sealed to Ather for time and all eternity in June 1970 in the Logan Utah Temple. He held various church callings throughout his life. When his beloved wife of almost 50 years passed away on February 27, 1996 he didn't want to live in this life alone. He married a family friend Norma Murray on July 3, 1996. He and Norma enjoyed spending time with their blended families and sitting on their front porch until she also passed from this life in May 27, 2015.
Adolphus was a farmer by trade, along with his wife Ather; farming as sharecroppers on Charles Farrior's farm and others in the area. They would leave Louise at the end of the row in a basket while gathering corn and other crops. He also worked on tobacco farms and raised hogs for meat for his family. After retiring from farming he worked at JP Stevens, Worsley Oil Company and the town of Wallace for 21 years before retiring from public work. He always had a large garden and would share his crops with family, neighbors and friends. He worked hard all of his life but never forgot to spend time with his beloved family. He loved going out to eat with his daughter Louise and even allowed her to drive the tractor in the corn fields. He would take his grandchildren to the Stockyard in Wallace in his yellow Toyota truck and to work with him during the summer buying them candy bars and soft drinks from the vending machines. He would clean with Fantastik and say the word really funny making them laugh and laugh. He taught them how to pick grapes from his vines and make straight rows with the row buster plow. You would not find any grass in his garden. He reminded them not to play in the tool shed so they wouldn't get hurt. He taught them how to use a hammer and nail a piece of wood. His great grandchildren remember singing "over the river and through the woods to Papa Deaux's house we go" because literally you would have to cross the river bridge and go through the woods to get to his house. He loved picking on his great grandchildren to make them laugh even during tough times when we all evacuated to the shelter for Hurricane Florence. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and having beautiful flowers on his front porch and in the surrounding yard. He loved eating fried chicken, seafood, chicken and pastry, banana pudding, coconut cake and ice cream anytime of the year. He often said he and his daughter Louise would sit by the heater eating ice cream. He always said "I can eat a little more" when asked if he wanted seconds of what was being served. He also loved watching westerns on TV. He hated mosquitoes and other pesky flies. He drove his truck as if he was driving the tractor and his car did not know any speed other than fast. He always made sure he was well groomed, asking does my hair look okay? He would look in the mirror before heading out the door saying "what a handsome young man".
Adolphus will be missed greatly by his family and friends. Dolph, Doc, Daddy, Brother, Grandpa and Papa Deaux we will see you on the other side.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the Doctors, PA's, NP's, Nurses and staff of Wilmington Surgical Associates, Northchase Nursing and Rehab, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
